Printheads/thermal printheads are moving and replaceable parts in the printer. Thermal printheads are used in thermal transfer printers and direct thermal printers. Because the thermal printhead is in constant direct contact with the passing label, ribbon, or thermal transfer foil, it experiences continuous wear. As soon as the print quality deteriorates, becomes faint, or even patchy, the printhead must be replaced.
