Printheads are moving and replaceable parts inside the printer. Thermal printheads are used in thermal transfer and direct thermal printers. Because the thermal printhead is in constant direct contact with the passing label or ribbon/thermal transfer foil, it is subject to continuous wear. As soon as the print quality deteriorates, becomes faint, or even patchy, the printhead must be replaced.
